Chimney Repointing and Tuckpointing Services in Houston

Chimney repointing is a restoration process that involves removing old, damaged mortar from between bricks and replacing it with new, durable mortar. This process strengthens the chimney structure, prevents water penetration, and improves overall stability.
Chimney tuckpointing is a more detailed masonry technique that not only repairs mortar joints but also enhances the visual appearance of your chimney. It involves applying new mortar that matches the existing brickwork, followed by the addition of fine lines to create a clean, uniform look.
Maintaining strong mortar joints is essential for the safety and durability of your chimney. Without proper maintenance, damaged mortar can allow water to enter, leading to serious structural issues over time.
When performed by professionals, chimney repointing can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, depending on weather conditions and maintenance. In Houston, TX, regular inspections and proper care can help extend the lifespan even further.

What Happens After Chimney Tuckpointing?

After completing the repairs, we’ll review the condition of the restored mortar joints and explain any additional maintenance that may help extend the life of your chimney. If we identify concerns involving the chimney crown, cap, flashing, or waterproofing, we’ll discuss your options before recommending additional services.

If tuckpointing fully addresses the problem, we’ll let you know.

Beware of United Home Service. Scammers. I had 3 A/C companies and air purification company and 4 ductwork companies look at my system this last month. One A/C company was just an annual check on my system. All was good. I am looking for quotes for installing air vents and anything that may help with my upstairs, as we keep our doors closed all the time. I was told my system would be more efficient with return vents in the room. As I had never heard this before, I was getting quotes. As I was getting quotes, I was learning more as well as finding out how much each would charge. They were all about the same. United Home Service came and like all the others wanted to look in my attic. He was up there so long I went up to see what he was doing. I told him I was not having issues just trying to improve my efficiency. Well, Ron came up with all these other problems. I asked him why all the other companies never came up with this problem. And he said the work that was done was wrong. But after all these other companies my system worked. Now it doesn't. They will not address the issue and tell me to call my home warrenty service and pay to fix what they caused.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between tuckpointing and repointing? Most homeowners should schedule a professional chimney inspection at regular intervals, especially before heavy fireplace use or when buying or selling a home.
The two terms are commonly used interchangeably. Both involve repairing worn or damaged mortar joints in masonry construction.
Common signs include cracked or missing mortar, loose bricks, crumbling joints, visible gaps, and moisture damage affecting the chimney masonry.
Mortar naturally deteriorates over time due to weather exposure, moisture, age, and repeated expansion and contraction caused by changing temperatures.
Restoring damaged mortar joints can help reduce water intrusion through the masonry. However, chimney leaks may also originate from the flashing, chimney crown, or chimney cap.
In many cases, waterproofing is recommended after masonry repairs to help protect the restored brick and mortar from future moisture exposure.
The cost depends on the size of the chimney, the condition of the mortar joints, and the extent of the repairs required. We provide free on-site estimates before beginning any work.
